According to the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) more consumers than ever are struggling with mortgage repayments.
The group have reported that inflation for homeowners is at a record of 9% which is more than double the 4.2% UK standard rate.
Added to this, household bills such as energy and council tax have also increased - all of which have contributed to a growth in personal debt.
A spokesperson for CCCS commented: "As the burdens on household finances mount, our research shows that homeowners in particular should take care."
