Parental help essential for many first time buyers

First time buyers struggling with mortgage repayment problems should count themselves lucky as the majority struggle to get even that far.

New research conducted by the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) has revealed that over a third of first time buyers have received help from parents in order to get onto the property ladder.

According to the figures collated by CML, of first time buyers in the under 30 age group, 40% state that they needed assistance. Further to this, over three quarters of young home owners under 25 would not have been able to enter the property market without financial help from Mum and Dad.
