UK worries about repayments

One in five consumers in the UK worry about keeping up with their mortgage repayments and have concerns that the next year could see them fall into significant arrears.

Nearly one and a half million fixed rate mortgage deals will revert to a higher rate of interest in 2008, with people expected to cough up extra money each month in repayments. Experts say this could leave some people with significant financial problems.

However, the Bank of England have released a statement saying they believe that most people will be able to cope with mortgage repayments this year as long as there isn't a significant rise in unemployment or interest rates.
